All About Stainless Steel 316 Valves

How come stainless steel?

Since stainless steel is a type of steel, it is usually quite durable. It has excellent pressure and temperature resistance as a result. In addition, it is a more resilient and long-lasting metal than cast iron, ductile iron, brass, or copper.

The term "stainless steel" refers to highly corrosion-resistant materials. Combined with their strength and hardness, stainless steels are a practical material choice for small, compact flow control valves. This is true even though it costs more and is more expensive to shape.

Why use metal valves when plastic ones are typically less expensive and more corrosion-resistant?

It is true that in most situations, plastic valves outperform metal valves in terms of corrosion resistance. However, metal valves are more robust and can withstand higher temperatures and pressures than plastic valves.

What makes steel different from iron?

A metal and an element, iron is quite reactive. In other words, it rusts or oxidizes quickly. But steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. It is far more durable than iron while still being quite simple to form and work with

The most crucial element affecting Stainless Steel 316 Valves strength is its carbon content. The ductility or workability of steel is also influenced by the iron
-to-carbon ratio. While less carbon is easier to work with but less strong, more carbon is stronger but harder to deal with.

Why are ductility and workability important, and what are they?

A metal's ductility refers to its capacity to be bent and stretched without cracking. The opposite of ductility is brittleness. Roll forming, bending, drilling, stamping, and guillotine shearing are common metalworking techniques.

A metal's workability refers to how readily it may be molded without shattering when put through various metalworking procedures. A metal is simpler to work with if it is highly ductile. Workability varies depending on the metal's physical properties and the shaping technique utilized.
