Different Grades of Inconel Flanges

It is an alloy that is essentially made by Nickel and Chromium in more ratio. It is a very good alloy because of its resistance to high temperature oxidation, and can bear up to 2200°F. The chemical composition of Inconel is exceptional as it is combined of Nickel at 61.5%, Chromium 22.5%, and Carbon at 0.05%. Availability of carbon makes the alloy stronger ad durable. It has a Tensile Strength of 80000 Psi, and can yield up to 30000 at the elongation of 35%. Inconel 601 also has good ductility. The grades available of Inconel are Inconel 600, Inconel 601, Inconel 625, Inconel 800, Inconel 825.

 Grades of Inconel

Mentioned below are some Inconel grades in order-

1.       Inconel 600 - The alloy grade has Nickel at maximum of 72.0% and Chromium between 14-17%, Iron at 10% maximum. The Temperature Tensile Properties are Tensile Strength at 624 MPa and 90.5 ksi, Yield Strength at 214 MPa and 31 ksi, with an elongation of 46%.

2.       Inconel 601- This alloy contains 63% of Nickel and 25% of Chromium. The Mechanical Properties of 601 are 86500 psi Tensile Strength and 28500 psi Yield Strength, with the elongation at 58%.

3.       Inconel 625- Grade 625 has balanced Nickel and 23% Chromium at maximum what makes it different is molybdenum at 10%. The tensile data here is 138.8 ksi and 957 MPa Tensile Strength with Yield Strength at 72 ksi and 496 MPa.

4.       Inconel 825- The grade 825 here has combined Nickel and Cobalt at maximum 46% and Chromium of 23.5%. The Tensile Strength here is 100 ksi and 689 MPa; the yield strength is 55 ksi and 379 MPa with the elongation of 39%.

 Flanges

Now a Flange is a kind of device that falls under a piping system, which is used to connect or disassemble pipes, valves, pumps, and other parts. Flanges can be assembled into pipes from outside as well as inside. Not only piping systems, flanges are used in many other applications according to their properties. A flange usually appears as a ring with a large bore in the middle and some holes around the bore to fastening it. There are many types of flanges.

 Applications

Off-Shore Oil Drilling Companies mostly use pipes so they also use flanges to keep the pipes intact just for avoiding the spilling of gas or oil, Power Generation, Petrochemicals and Gas Processing industries also use flanges for preventing the leakage of chemical or gases, Specialty, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Pharmaceutical Equipment, Chemical Equipment, Sea Water Equipment, Heat Exchangers includes pipe so it also includes flanges. The condenser and pulp and paper industry necessarily require an Inconel flag because of its durability, some of the many industries that use Inconel flanges. Flanges of each Inconel grade are used for their diverse properties.
